Made in Italy meets China

Hong Kong

A unique gastronomic convention, the Italian Cuisine World Summit, will take place in Hong Kong from November 2nd through 7th, 2010. Some of the world’s biggest names in Italian Cuisine will be the protagonists of a weeklong event dedicated to celebrating excellence of food, wine and cuisine made in Italy.
Promoted by the global network itchefs-gvci (Virtual Group of Italian Chefs) and by the fourteen Hong Kong best Italian restaurants (plus one in Macau and in Shenzhen), the Summit is an amazing showcase of culinary talents, flavours and products. Thirty five top Italian cuisine master chefs, many of them Michelin-starred, coming from Italy, New York, Rio De Janeiro, Moscow and Asian capitals, will lead the Summit. They will prepare special lunches and dinners, run master cooking classes and offer products tastings in their hosting restaurants, in the Towngas cooking school, in specialty shops and in the Italian Pavilion (Vinitaly China) at the Hong Kong International Wine and Spirits Fair (4-6 November).
“Authentic Italian Cuisine is delicious and healthy and for this reason is increasingly fashionable around the world”, says Rosario Scarpato, the Director of the Summit. Not by chance it has become the most beloved cuisines in Asia only after the local ones and Hong Kong is the gateway to Asia for quality foodstuffs and wines coming from Italy. “This World Summit is a tribute to Hong Kong and to the discerning Italian food lovers of this unbelievable city”, says Paolo Monti, executive Chef at Hong Kong Gaia Restaurant and Culinary supervisor of the Summit.

Among the Guest Masters of the Summit  there will be Michelin starred chefs from Milano and Lombardia, including Claudio Sadler, Philippe Leveillé, Enrico Bartolini, Andrea Tonola, Gaetano Simonato, and from Piemonte: Marco Sacco, Giovanni Grasso, Igor Macchia, Sergio Vineis and Pier Bussetti. Big names in Italian Cuisine will come also from other parts of the world as New York (Cesare Casella and Mark Ladner, who recently was awarded the 4 stars by the New York Times), Rio De Janeiro (Francesco Carli) and Moscow (Pietro Rongoni). “They will be joined by may other chefs and restaurateurs from all over the world coming to Hong Kong to celebrate itchefs-GVCI network´s 10th anniversary”, says Mario Caramella, executive chef in Bali and president of GVCI.
The Summit will begin on November 2 with a Gala Dinner (Kowloon Shangri La Hotel) entirely dedicated to the Northern Italian region of Piemonte and to the most aristocratic and irresistible of its food products: the white truffle. But quality Italian foods and wines will be the protagonists throughout the whole Summit, starting with the impressive Cocktail/Tasting Industry Workshop, scheduled for Wednesday November 3, at Joia Restaurant (free admission, trade only, register at Italian Chameber of Commerce - Ms. Agate Leung, tel: +852-2521 8837). Check the full program of the event that includes a world première: during the Summit it will be possible to taste fresh High Quality Novello (New) Extra virgin Olive Oil, pressed exclusively for the event and flown to Hong Kong.
